WHO YOU ARE.... You have an interest in actively helping to preserve BC First Nations cultural heritage. You have a positive self-starter attitude; you are a good listener and respectful of others. Helping the team and company continually improve and reach its goals is meaningful to you. You enjoy innovation and thinking outside the box. You are safety conscious and will maintain or exceed Kleanza’s safety standards. Your enthusiasm will further Kleanza’s corporate culture and vision.
ABOUT KLEANZA... We take on people and projects that align with our values; are the firm of choice based on relationships and trust; model ethical practice and excellence in heritage and research; are deeply connected to our Indigenous community partners; and support First Nation goals for heritage sovereignty.
Kleanza is a full-suite archaeological consulting firm with offices in Terrace, Prince Rupert, central Vancouver Island (Bowser), and Vancouver. We have a new opportunity for Project Managers and Field Directors to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis to complement our growing business. We highly value innovation, thinking outside the box, enthusiasm, and we hope you do as well.
Preference is for these positions to be based in Vancouver or the Lower Mainland, though we would accept other locations for the right candidates. Applicants who have experience in a professional services firm/consulting environment would be preferred but not required. The core focus of the Field Director roles is conducting fieldwork, assisting with data collection, and report writing.
Project Managers will be expected to have a reduced field capacity, though field work would still be expected; permit holding status is an asset. Candidates with experience working collaboratively with First Nations communities, and who understand the processes and responsibilities of First Nations heritage permits, are preferred.

We are a small consulting company that focuses on archaeology, heritage, community engagement, and education. We believe our personal connections with communities are our strength and the foundation of our success. We are accountable to First Nations, cultural heritage, our clients, and each other. We believe in safe and fair work environments, communication, transparency, environmental awareness, and inclusivity. We recognize the social, political, and cultural importance of our work. We are committed to making differences into education opportunities, and disagreements into discussions. We are responsible for always improving the quality of our discipline and professional standards.
Our employees are an integral part of our success and have a voice in Kleanza's future and direction. We look for opportunity in every project and relationship. As a team, we are resilient, adaptable, and always learning.
Archaeology in BC is older than the pyramids. Over the last 10 years, we have learned so much from placing the perspective of the people who have lived here for millennia at the centre of our work. Post UNDRIP, post TRC - we believe that ethical archaeology can be a valuable tool for decolonization and for truth and reconciliation.
To quote the UN, "Women’s full and effective participation in leadership in all areas of life, drive progress for everyone." Kleanza is owned by women, managed by women and over half of our team of employees and contractors are women. We made a short video to celebrate that, and the shifts we are focused on making for women in the discipline of archaeology.
Our senior staff have between 15 and 25 years of experience, and mentor more junior employees.
We are Professional Members of the BC Association Consulting Archaeologists. We are also BC Forest Safe certified, and members of the Register of Professional Archaeologists and Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals.
We have specialists on staff including lithic analysts, dendrochronologists, osteologists, faunal analysts, and educators.
