KS210 Introduction to lithic archaeology
This course focuses on lithic stone tools and debitage found in BC, in the interior and on the coast. Over the duration of the course, participants will learn to define and recognize significance of lithic belongings, as well as identify lithic characteristics, flake properties, and tool types, and understand the relationships between stone tools and archaeological site function.
KS211 Introduction to archaeology of animal bones
This course is an introduction to animal bone identification, with a focus on recognizing different groups of taxa (e.g., deer/elk, salmonids, ducks, and geese). Basic analytical techniques are also introduced.
KS223 D-stretch for rock art
This course aims to introduce learners to the variety of “rock art”, to consider the criteria of “rock art” as a site type recognized by the Archaeology Branch of BC, and the significance of these sites. Learners will also be introduced to D-stretch software, which can be used to highlight pigment on rock panels. NB: we are working to secure access to D-stretch software for all learners in this course, but are awaiting confirmation from the software developer. In the case that the software developer declines to make the software available for this course, the instructor will provide a detailed orientation to the software and how to access it after the course, so that learners may confidently use it once it is made available.
